NOV 5: Calgary Town Hall - Stop Coal Mining and the Oil Well Cleanup Scam
Stop Coal Mining & the Oil Well Cleanup Scam
In-Person Town Hall - Calgary
Our Government Keeps Putting Energy Companies Over People and Land
You’ve heard the stories:
Aging oil and gas wells leaking toxic pollutants near homes across Alberta. Farmers losing acres of farmland to rusting, weed-ridden, forgotten wells.
Then there is the sneaky new plan for coal mining in the Rockies, which will destroy our beautiful landscapes, poison our drinking water, and ruin our farmland.
Energy companies and the Alberta government have rigged the system. They give industry insiders and greedy executives their dream wish list, at the expense of everyday Albertans, and our precious land, air and water.

What To Expect
On November 5th, we’re gathering in Calgary with allies from across the province to expose the government’s “drill-and-dash” plan for oil and gas wells that leaves us all paying the bill, and their corrupt push for new coal mines in the Rockies — and how people like you are fighting back.
Join us for:
- In-person presentations from citizen leaders on both the Alberta Beyond Coal and Clean Up Your Mess campaigns
- Community discussion on how these policies affect our land, water, and communities
- Organizing together to turn our shared knowledge into immediate political pressure
- Food and fellowship starting at 6:00 PM

Why This Matters Now
Danielle Smith’s government is pushing two new plans that will give energy companies greater control over Alberta’s resources.
The first is a new plan that lets industry off the hook for oil and gas infrastructure cleanup. The “Mature Asset Strategy” (or MAS) is an industry wish list, developed behind closed doors, that lets companies walk away from their cleanup obligations, while the public and the environment foot the multi-billion dollar bill.
The government is also introducing the “Coal Industry Modernization Initiative” (or CIMI), which is the province’s proposed plan to replace the moratorium on coal mining in the Rockies. 70% of Albertans oppose new coal development in the Eastern Slopes, and this plan is being developed without the public’s involvement or support.
If we don’t get organized, the government of Alberta will make sure that energy corporations get what they want. YOU can help change this!
